RETURNING IN SEPTEMBER 2021
Due to COVID19 Guidelines, the 2020 Jensie Gran Fondo will not be held in its traditional format. We encourage cyclists to take part in the Jensie Solo Fondo, powered by Ride with GPS, between September 11 and September 28, 2020.
On September 26, 2021, the Jensie Gran Fondo will return to Novato, CA with the start/finish at Stafford Lake Park. We will be using your favorite courses from the 2018 and earlier editions of the Jensie Gran Fondo.
WHEN IS THE 2021 JENSIE GRAN FONDO? Sunday, September 26, 2021.
WHO CAN RIDE? Anyone who enjoys road cycling regularly will enjoy The Jensie Gran Fondo. We have designed our routes so riders of all abilities can have a great and memorable experience. There will be regular rest stops and on course mechanical support, so you can ride comfortably knowing assistance, should you need it, is not far away. For security purposes, please note that participants under 14 will need to be accompanied by a legal guardian.
WHAT DO I GET? You can expect an awesome and memorable day with Jens Voigt, arguably the most fun guy in pro cycling. You’ll be treated to a Pro Tour level experience with on course neutral support. We’ll keep you fueled with fully staffed and stocked service stops. At the finish, you will enjoy the Finisher’s Village where you will be treated to a recovery meal, music and an ice cold local brew.
HOW MANY REST STOPS CAN I EXPECT? Dependent on route, riders can count on 2-4 fully stocked rest stops.
CAN I RENT A BIKE? Yes, we will have options for bike rentals and will be posting those options soon.
CAN I SHIP MY BIKE? Yes, we recommend Bike Flights to help riders easily ship their bikes for The Jensie Gran Fondo. WHAT HAPPENS IF WHILE RIDING I WANT TO RIDE A DIFFERENT ROUTE? You are more than welcome to opt for a shorter route without penalty. We have invested significantly in this event to ensure your safety and enjoyment, and are unfortunately unable to allow you to ride a longer route without officially transferring with our registration team. Help us to keep this this event safe and growing each year by signing up for the distance you plan to ride. All bibs will be color coded based on route and will be enforced at each rest stop. If we find you cheating the system, Jens just might chase you down and exclude you from future events!
WHAT’S PACKET PICKUP? Packet pickup is when you are able to officially claim your rider packet and goody bag. We require that each person sign a waiver to claim their packet.
PACKET PICKUP DATES & LOCATIONS*: TBD.
CAN I PICK UP A PACKET FOR A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER? It is strongly recommended each rider pick-up their own packet so they can sign their waiver directly. For our out-of-towners or those unable to make it, we can allow exceptions. Please email us at email@example.com for information and instructions on next steps.
WHAT TIME DOES THE RIDE START? Ride start time will be PROMPTLY AT 8:00AM, If driving, we recommend arriving EARLY to ensure sufficient time to park and unload your gear before event start.
WILL MY RIDE BE TIMED? Riders will be provided with a timing chip that attaches to your bike. For 2020, The Jensie Gran Fondo will feature timed segment racing. There will be 1-3 timed segments on course, depending on the route you choose. Your combined time through timed segments will determine your competitive ranking at the end of the event. The event is not timed start-to-finish, but riders must cross the finish line for segment times to be counted. Prizes will be awarded to overall and age-group winners. We caution you to practice prudent and legal riding throughout the day. All rules of the road must be followed at all times. Any illegal riding, i.e. crossing the yellow line, not stopping at stop signs (should CHP require a stop) will result in disqualification and your time will not count.
HOW SLOW CAN I GO? All riders should have plenty of time to ride at a comfortable pace. The course and expo will close at 5pm. At this time on-course support and timing will conclude. It is very important that each rider choose a course distance that is right for them.
WHY IS THERE A COURSE CUTOFF TIME? It’s all about your safety! It is our responsible that you have a safe and enjoyable ride — within daylight hours. The time cut off allows us to adequately staff the route with volunteers and law enforcement teams. It also allows us to make sure no one gets left out on the course against their wishes.
WHAT TYPE OF BIKE MAY I RIDE IN THE GRAN FONDO? We encourage everyone to ride a road specific bike. Mountain bikes, tandems and two-wheeled recumbents will also be permitted. Due to the technical nature of the course and to ensure the safety of all riders, time trial bikes, bikes with clip on aero bars are strongly discouraged. If you elect to ride a time trial styled bike, for the safety of all riders, riding in aero position will not be permitted at any time. Bikes with trailers and/or attached youth seats will not be permitted. Trail-a-bikes will however be allowed — yaay!
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS DURING THE JENSIE GRAN FONDO? Shut up rain! We will ride rain or shine. We do ask that you please be considerate to others and make sure you ride responsibly should we experience inclement conditions. Please also make sure you bring appropriate wet weather clothing — just in case.
HOW CAN I PURCHASE JENSIE SWAG? Jensie swag is available for purchase when you register online at Events.com. Already registered? No problem, you can also purchase merchandise directly from the Jensie Gran Fondo website here: http://swag.thejensiegranfondo.com
I RECEIVED MY JENSIE MERCHANDISE BUT NEED A DIFFERENT SIZE. WHAT DO I DO? Jensie merchandise can be exchanged for another size during packet pick-up hours. Please bring your unworn items to the ‘Merchandise Sales’ tent onsite at packet pick-up to request the exchange. (Note: we will only able to process requests for size changes and will be based on availability)
ARE HEADPHONES, iPODS or MP3 PLAYERS PERMITTED? To ensure rider safety on course, we ask that you not ride with any headphones or personal music devices.
WHERE CAN I PARK ON EVENT DAY? Limited parking will be available. Details to be provided.
WHAT IF I AM SEPARATED OR LOSE TRACK OF MY FRIENDS/FAMILY DURING THE TOUR? Make a plan in advance with your friends/family in case you get split up. Rest areas are a great place to meet up with friends and re-group.

STAFFORD LAKE PARK IS THE START AND FINISH POINT. The Jensie Gran Fondo has been designed to be an extraordinary day, with a focus on enjoying the best road and views with Jens Voigt and our respected event partners. At the conclusion of the event, “suffering” the Jensie way, we will have prepared a “village” environment for you to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Taking an hour or two to relax and recover is a part of any cycling event’s tradition. You’ll find a wide range of foods available from some of the best area vendors. You’ll also find a glass of something cool and refreshing to wash it down with, whilst you sit in the shade, soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the moment.
